Cross Community Work with Bellaghy Primary School

Continuing our Partnership with Bellaghy Primary School

A number of our pupils recently travelled to the Titanic Dry Dock and Pump House in Belfast  along with their counterparts in Bellaghy Primary School. These children are  part of the Primary Integrating and Enriching Education Project(PIEE), run by the NEELB and funded by the International Fund for Ireland and Atlantic Philanthropies.
The PIEE project has enabled schools from the different sectors to work together , to share expertise, resources and space to further enrich the educational experience of the children as well as having economic and societal benefits.
The teachers in our two schools have been working together to develop shared themes and this term both classes have been studying the Titanic as part of their theme: “No Plan B” so it was really beneficial for the children to have the chance to visit the place where the Titanic was once docked .
These educational visits really help to reinforce the learning that has gone on within the classroom and the tour given by the guide from the Titanic Walking Tours was informative .
These children are looking ahead to further shared activities over the coming months both in each other’s schools as well as in other venues such as the Baronscourt Estate in Newtonstewart.
